Megacon 2025! 25/01/2025

Last week I had attended Megacon London on the Saturday! I have a lot to say about the event so I will basically place it in this blog!

Firstly, the journey sucked. This is due to the fact that all the over ground trains were not running and thus was forced to take the underground, which was nerve wrecking. People are so unnecessarily cruel to cosplayers or to alternative people, especially when we are trying to mind our own business.

I had gotten there around 1 O'clock and the first thing I noticed was the lack of people? It wasn't quiet, but it wasn't rammed pack like Comic Con is, it was just perfect amount of people. My family member actually got talking to a security guard and even he was surprised at the turn out! More people apparently went to Rupaul's a week prior!

Any who, I slapped on my tv-head and began exploring the con!

The first positive is the artist alley! I love seeing what small businesses have to offer, especially independent artists! It's honestly such fantastic space for both cosplayers and artists alike! The art this year was impeccable, ranging from clothing to keychains to even jewellery, I had a blast buying and supporting small businesses. No doubt that you can always find something from a fandom no matter how small or big. I managed to find stickers of Greaseball from the Starlight Express and had the biggest geek out ever!

Second, is the cosplayers. They're so kind and friendly! It's what makes me so proud to be apart of a community, everyone was so welcoming and so sweet! I had talked to many people who had loved my Tv-Head cosplay and it made me so happy that I got to talk in depth on how I created it! I also got to meet up with my mutual on Instagram. Although no one had taken a photo with me at the con, that is not the point. I love meeting new people and speaking to others, and it genuienly makes me smile how connected the cosplay community is!

Lastly, the location at the Excel Centre. It's honestly such a great building. If you don't consider the lack of air-conditioning, it's pretty much a large building that is heavily signed and easy to navigate. One of my biggest hack is that if you go down a level, there is a shop selling food and drinks for cheap! Also the toilets are very clean down there and hardly has any lines (or at least it did for Megacon!). The outside has a large green field where people meet up and chill and just outside of the con is the River Thames which is a massive go to for photographs!

The only negatives however would be the booths selling AliExpress items. This is because there were quiet a lot of them this year, I think I had counted about 3 booths. The reason I disagree with reselling of AliExpress items is the fact that the sellers mark up the prices by like 100%, meaning you're buying cheap and probably poorly made figurines or props for a hefty amount. It genuinely frustrates not only me but to the other small businesses as they're selling mass produced that are of poor quality for a luxurious amount, when you can literally just walk down the artist alley and buy a print or a pin from an independent artist and support their businesses.

Also, this year had many big creators at Megacon! I'm talking about Pyrocynical, AddyHarajuku and even Dinobunny! Although, I didn't meet any of these creators, I still love the large variety of star guests they have!

Overall, it was a 9/10 this year! Defiantly will be going again next year!
